Ubisoft has had nothing but praise for the Wii U, and of all the third-party developers, they are currently the largest backer of the new console. Yves Guillemot, the company's CEO, recently met with investors, where he said the following:Out of the 7 games we have for launch, five are ports, so those are games for which there is a quite small re-investment to make. The two original games are ZombiU and Rayman, so those are more expensive."
Guillemot went on to say that it costs less than one million dollars to port games to Nintendo's latest console, which is considerably cheaper than developing a new title specifically designed for the system. Because of the low cost of Wii U ports, the CEO told investors that the company "doesn't have a huge investment in the Wii U." The commercial success or failure of Ubisoft's efforts will be crucial, as third-parties have been hesitant to develop games for Nintendo consoles in recent years due to poor sales.
