Check out the improved graphics.

Cloudberry Kingdom is a retro-style platformer that features randomly generated levels, and is said to be quite difficult on the hardest difficulty setting. Fortunately, there will be several different difficulty levels to ensure that gamers of all skill levels will be able to enjoy it.

The title is coming to a variety of different platforms, including the Wii U eShop, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network. Its features include a "huge campaign," infinite levels, co-op multiplayer, leaderboads, a custom level builder, and more than 10 heroes with unique physics.

The game's Kickstarter campaign was successful, and industry giant Ubisoft has now teamed up with Pwnee Studios to help bring the indie game to a larger audience. The title has received quite a few graphical improvements during its time in development and now looks better than ever.

Developer Pwnee Studios has put together a developer diary video which traces the history of the upcoming platformer Cloudberry Kingdom, and shows some new footage of the latest build in action. You can watch it after the break.

Cloudberry Kingdom coming in March

Castle level in Cloudberry Kingdom

Developer Pwnee Studios has given a tentative release date of March 2013 for their upcoming platformer Cloudberry Kingdom. The game will be available on the Wii U eShop, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network. The company has also revealed it is already working on a new project, although no specific details were given.

“In the meantime we are already under way developing a new game! No title yet, but concept art and game-play is being designed as we speak, and we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign very soon to help fund our development.”

Cloudberry Kingdom randomly generates levels depending on the level of difficulty chosen by the player, and uses advanced AI to always ensure that success is possible. It boasts infinite levels, features an arcade mode, four-player co-op, leaderboards, a custom level builder, custom level sharing, and the ability to challenge friends. The hardest difficulty is said to be truly challenging, and Pwnee Studios is actually offering $1,000 to the first player who can complete the game on the hardest difficulty.

The game is incredibly hard, but Easy Mode will make it accessible to the masses.

According to Nintendo World Report, Pwnee Studios' 2D platformer Cloudberry Kingdom has been delayed. When asked if the title was coming to the eShop this month as planned, they received the following response:

''Unfortunately it is not. Looks like we're going to delay for a bit and go for a simultaneous launch across multiple platforms.''

As of this writing, the developer has not given a new release window for the game.

Cloudberry Kingdom overview and screenshots

Castle level in Cloudberry Kingdom
The developers have cited Super Mario Bros. as a major influence, and it shows.

Cloudberry Kingdom is a launch window eShop title, but most websites are focused entirely on the Wii U's blockbuster titles. As a result,  not many people are familiar with the game. For your convenience, here is the official description of the game straight from the developer.

Cloudberry Kingdom is a randomly generated side-scrolling platformer with the ability to cater to your desired level of difficulty through use of a level-designing AI. This AI is capable of building a platformer level, ensuring that it is possible, and obeying our specifications to make sure that it is challenging and fun in general. We have used this AI to create a platformer of epic proportions! Seriously, it’s huge, like, infinite levels huge.

Cloudberry Kingdom devs: Nintendo has been awesome to work with

The developer says the first person to complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting wins $1,000!

Emily Rogers of Not Enough Shaders recently interviewed the guys at Pwnee Studios, the developers of the indie platformer Cloudberry Kingdom, and they had nothing but praise for Nintendo.

Rogers: "Is the process easy for an indie developer to become an authorized Wii U developer, and what does Nintendo specifically look for when they authorize an indie developer to be a Wii U eShop developer?"

Pwnee Studios: “We can only speak for Pwnee here, but Nintendo has been awesome to work with. Incredibly helpful, friendly, and really just great people all around. From the first day we pitched Cloudberry to Nintendo we’ve only had positive feedback and tons of support. Looking at the indie lineup for Nintendo I think they are really gunning for unique, innovative, and polished indie titles. If you’re an indie studio I definitely encourage you to consider WiiU as a platform.”

Nintendo has been emphasizing their desire to get indie developers to bring their games to the Wii U, and it sounds like they're doing a pretty good job at getting developers on board.

How challenging, you ask? Pwnee Studios has promised to give $1,000 to the first person who completes it on the hardest difficulty setting. One lucky...er...skilled gamer is going to make a profit off this old school-style 2D title. It is scheduled for release on the Wii U eShop in November 2012. Two trailers after the break.
