Renegade Kid "definitely" making more Wii U games

Mutant Mudds Deluxe on Wii U GamePad

In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham spoke highly of the Wii U, calling it "a great console." He also revealed the company will "definitely" make more games for the system.

Bringing Mutant Mudds Deluxe to the Wii U has been a lot of fun. Playing it on the GamePad and TV is a really fun and different experience. We will definitely be developing more Wii U games in the future.

Watsham also feels that eShop titles tend to have higher difficulty levels than full-fledged retailed games, and said that Mutant Mudds follows that pattern with "hardcore players" in mind.

It seems as though the collective conscience decided to develop games for hardcore players instead of casual players this round. Mutant Mudds was definitely made for the type of gamer who wants and enjoys a challenge, and also likes unlocking many layers of hidden content.

Watsham then spoke briefly about the Wii U version of the game, saying that the introduction of checkpoints will widen its appeal and allow more players to enjoy the game.

Regarding improvements for the Wii U version, the only addition in that regard is the checkpoints really. I think this is an improvement in the way that it enables more players to enjoy the game and not get frustrated by the challenge presented.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe features all of the content of the 3DS version plus an additional twenty Ghost World levels which will be exclusive to the Wii U version. The checkpoints are optional and can be disabled by players who prefer a higher level of difficulty.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe has new levels and enemies

Mutant Mudds Deluxe level select screen

The first issue of Nintendo Force magazine is out and it contains a few new details about the Wii U eShop title Mutant Mudds Deluxe. The platformer will feature twenty new levels, along with a new power-up. There will also be "ghostified" versions of old enemies and some new ghost creatures as well. Max can take them down using the "Ghost Shot," a temporary power-up.

As players complete the twenty original levels, new stages will be unlocked in the hub world. The "ghostly" screenshot of the hub world you see above was tweeted by Jools Watsham himself.

Renegade Kid, the game's developer is currently considering Miiverse support. If they decide to integrate Nintendo's new social network, players will be able to leave comments to help out others.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe will have optional checkpoints

Mutant Mudds Deluxe on Wii U GamePad

The iOS version of Mutant Mudds features a checkpoint system, which allows players to return to specific areas in a level after losing a life. Checkpoints are marked with large signs, making it obvious when players have reached one.

Developer Renegade Kid has confirmed that Mutant Mudds Deluxe, the Wii U version of the game, will also have checkpoints. However, they are entirely optional and can be turned off if gamers would like an additional challenge. The 2D platformer is coming to the Wii U eShop in early 2013.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe coming to Wii U

Consider this an announcement.

Jools Watsham, co-founder of the developer Renegade Kid, has uploaded the above image to his blog. As you can see, it is an image of a level from Mutant Mudds, and in the upper left corner, you can clearly see the words "Mutant Mudds Deluxe." Based on the image, it will probably be one of the many titles that can be played solely on the GamePad without the need for a TV. More on this as it develops.
