Trine 2 Wii U update now available in Europe, North American update coming "soon"
Edit: The update is now available in all regions. Click here for story.
The update for Trine 2: Director's Cut is now available in Europe. The update improves the graphics by adjusting the gamma settings, adds Wii U Pro Controller support, voice chat support, and German voice acting.
There's more good news as well. One member of the development team says that the update will be available in North America "soon." Here's a comment posted on Nintendo Life by Joel of Frozenbyte.
Hey guys, Joel from Frozenbyte here. I just wrote this for NeoGAF so I will copy it here:
Update released in Europe
Australia & New Zealand release date set to January 31 (Thursday)
Australia & New Zealand launch discount and other details to be announced next week
Update contents: The update includes support for the Wii U Pro Controller, Voice Chat for online multiplayer, German vocals, improved graphics rendering and a bunch of minor gameplay features and fixes.
North American update is coming "soon" - we'll have to wait and see how long that turns out to be, but I'm reasonably hopeful it won't be too long now either.
So there we go. Sorry again for the long delay with the update and also AU&NZ release, it's taken way longer than we were anticipating, but at least it's the home stretch now! We're very interested to hear feedback on the update, the graphics alone should elicit some comments. :) (Although I'm sure that such a drastic change may also get some negative feedback - in that case try turning the Brightness sliders all the way to the right.)
I hope this helps! :)
Best,
Joel

Trine 2: Director's Cut may be released as boxed retail title
When Trine 2 was originally released, it was available in physical form as a boxed retail title. One YouTube user has asked developer Frozenbyte if that might happen with the Wii U version. Their response?
“It’s a possibility… we’d need a partner for it though, so even if we decide to go for it, it will in any case take a lot of time to arrange, so it’s hard to say when it could happen… we’ll see!”

Frozenbyte had no issues porting Trine 2 to Wii U
It has been widely reported that the Wii U CPU is clocked slower than those of the Xbox 360 and PS3, and there have been questions as to whether or not that will cause issues when porting games to the platform. GamingBolt recently interviewed Frozenbyte about the process of porting Trine 2 to the Wii U, and they asked if the low clock speed caused them any problems. Their response?
“None whatsoever. The whole architecture is running very well and we were able to ramp the Trine 2 art to a higher degree than with the other consoles. So for porting no issues at all and there is a nice base for future original development too. Maybe some were looking for a larger leap in terms of pure power, but in the end I believe most developers will be quite comfortable with the system.”
GamingBolt reports that Frozenbyte went on to say that they feel as though Nintendo mostly designs their systems based on what their first-party games offer and tend to follow their own path.
“Absolutely, but again in a very different direction that Nintendo has always been known for. They create their own standards and have huge IPs to fall back on. As for untapping the hidden power of new consoles.. I think Nintendo personifies that in all of their first party titles, regardless of the actual CPU or GPU performance.”

"We are very interested in working on it [the Wii U] again. Who knows, but if everything goes well maybe even sooner than many might suspect.” -Mikael Haveri

Wii U version of Trine 2 is best-looking console version
Trine 2 is a gorgeous game, there's no doubt about it. No matter what platform it's on, it looks great. Digital Foundry has posted a lengthy analysis of the title and it turns out the Wii U version not only looks better than the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but has a solid frame-rate as well. Here's an excerpt.
The Wii U version also deserves credit, of course. The game not only features many of the graphical upgrades found on the PC, but does so while delivering better image quality than the 360 and PS3 without compromising on the solid frame-rate. The more washed-out image is a concern compared to the darker look of the other versions, but only for those with HDTVs that don't come with an option to select full or limited range RGB levels over HDMI (usually called HDMI black level), in which changing this setting to low (and lowering the brightness in the game's menu) solves the problem. However, the bottom line is that we shouldn't have to work so hard to get the best look from the game and we're a little surprised that Trine 2 shipped like this - we noted several complaints about the lighting on NeoGAF, but our contention is that the lighting model is absolutely fine, it's the gamma level that seems significantly skewed. It's a small blemish in what is a lovely-looking game, and hopefully it'll be patched up soon. [Update: Frozenbyte has now confirmed the gamma issue will be fixed in an update coming in mid-December].

Thanks, glad to hear! We will add voice chat support in an update in December :)
However you'll need a headset with a separate mic - the GamePad mic doesn't work directly sadly.

Trine 2 - Video Review by the Classic Game Room
Trine 2: Director's Cut is available on the Wii U eShop for $19.99. The sidescrolling action/puzzle game from developer Frozenbyte was originally released almost a year ago for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The Wii U version features an all-new level that is exclusive to the platform, and also has a new Magic Mayhem mode. The Goblin Menace expansion pack is included, which has six additional levels along with some new skills and puzzles. Trine 2 allows three players to team up locally or online for co-op play, so if you're looking for a game to play with some friends, you might want to consider buying it.
We haven't seen any reviews for Trine 2: Director's Cut yet, but seeing as how the game is pretty much like the other versions with some extra bells and whistles, I figured it would be a good idea to post a video review to give all of you an idea of what it has in store for those who download it. Developer Frozenbyte are bringing their hit download title Trine 2 to the Wii U, and the game's producer, Lauri Hyvarinen, is very optimistic about the Wii U eShop. In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Hyvarinen said, "Nintendo is taking online very seriously with Wii U. Everything we have seen and heard about the Wii U eShop sounds very promising." He also told ONM what he wants from Nintendo's online store. "Our hopes as developers are quite simple: inexpensive updating and easy certification process. That's really it. If the Wii U eShop can deliver either one of these, or even both, then we will be very happy!"
The Wii U version of the game will include the 6 levels featured in the expansion pack, Goblin Menace. You can either go it alone, or play along with friends, as the title sports a three player cooperative mode. Trine 2: Director's Cut will be a launch window title on the Wii U eShop. The Wii U version will include the 6 levels featured in the expansion pack, Goblin Menace. The game is a sidescrolling platformer, with lots of action and some puzzles thrown in for good measure. You can either go it alone, or play along with friends, as the title sports a three player cooperative mode. While it isn't a Wii U exclusive, it is definitely a welcome addition to the eShop. It is scheduled for a late 2012 release. New video after the break, along with the trailer which was released earlier this year.
