EA: Wii U version of Madden NFL 13 won't have everything

Madden fans might have the same look on their faces after reading this article.

EA has been talking a lot about how great Madden NFL 13 is going to be, putting an emphasis on the new Infinity Engine which is supposed to take the game's physics to the next level. While the company said the Wii U version would be "the real deal," it looks as though EA won't be able to keep its word. In an interview with ESPN, the game's producer, Yuri Bialoskursky, revealed the version destined for Nintendo's new console won't be featuring the Infinity Engine. "We definitely wanted to get the physics into the game," Bialoskursky said. "The Infinity Engine is something that is a point of interest for Madden fans, it's just something we weren't able to achieve for this first year on the new hardware."

In addition to this, the article also reveals that popular game modes Madden Ultimate Team and Online Team Play will also be missing in action. Bialoskursky did point out that the Wii U version will make use of the GamePad's touchscreen for an experience that's only possible on Nintendo's new console, and also made sure to mention that 5 players will able to play at the same time, thanks to the GamePad's extra screen.

While the ability to call plays and draw routes for receivers with a few taps and swipes of the touchscreen is pretty cool, this will come as little consolation to hardcore Madden fans who were hoping the extra processing power of the Wii U would ensure the system wouldn't get inferior ports, as was the case with the Wii. Even without the extra bells and whistles, it's not a complete deal-breaker. The game still looks great, and Nintendo fans will finally be able to play an HD version of the wildly popular series, with an awesome new controller I might add. Here's hoping EA can come through next year.
