Nintendo making it "dramatically easier" for friends to connect online on Wii U

Nintendo gets a lot of questions about friend codes. Apparently they'll be easier to manage this time.

In an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was asked about the procedure for connecting with friends on the Wii U's online service. He acknowledged the negative feedback the company's received about their use of friend codes on their handhelds and the Wii, and said that Nintendo is going to make it less complicated this time around.

Reggie: "We’ve heard the community feedback on friend codes and we’re making it dramatically easier for you to connect with your friends."

This is definitely good news, but he didn't share any details about the way the new system is going to work. Back in June, Reggie was asked the same question, and for those of you don't remember, here is what he said then:

Reggie: "There are friend codes, but it's not the existing friend code system, What do I mean by that? Here's what I mean: you will be able to identify people as friends and have a certain level of interaction vs. a different level of interaction for the more general population. The method by which you identify someone as a friend is a lot simpler than what's happening today with Friend Codes."

We still have 2 months until launch, so it's pretty much a given that Nintendo will spell it out for us in the coming weeks. And when they do, we'll be covering it.
