Wii U GamePad mic can't be used for voice chat, Pro Controller does not have headphone jack

Microphone on Wii U GamePad controller
Why put a microphone on a controller that can't be used for in-game voice chat?

A Nintendo representative has confirmed to gaming site Kotaku that the Wii U will only support voice chat on certain games. Assassin's Creed III and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 are two titles which will allow you to talk to your fellow gamers while playing, but there will surely be more.

Strangely, even though the Wii U GamePad has a built-in microphone, the rep said it can't be used for in-game chat. Instead, you will need to purchase a headset with a microphone yourself. Stranger still is the fact that the Wii U Pro Controller is meant to appeal to hardcore gamers, but it does not have a headphone jack. Instead, gamers will need to plug their headsets into the Wii U GamePad headphone jack even if if they're playing with the Pro Controller. Very odd design on Nintendo's part.

    1. I think that was just a concept video. The Wii U version of Ghost Recon Online is actually "on hold" according to Ubisoft. Here's the story:
