Bioshock Infinite reportedly coming to Wii U
BioShock and its sequel were immensely successful, critically and commercially. The Wii didn't have a chance of running the games, due to its underwhelming tech specs, and publisher Take Two decided not offer a scaled-down version for Nintendo's console. The third game in the series, BioShock Infinite, was announced some time ago for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. Today, Click Online has reported that the Nintendo crowd will be able to get in on the action this time around as well...eventually.
According to an article by Mark O'Beirne, development on a Wii U version will begin after the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions are released on Februrary 26, 2013. O'Beirne states the announcement was made during Take Two's earnings call, but no mention was made of how the game will differ from the versions released on other platforms. It appears fans of the big N will have to wait a lot longer to play the game on their console of choice, but the phrase "better late than never" comes to mind. If the report is true, this would mark a complete turnaround from the developer's position last October, when designer Ken Levine told IGN his company had "no plans" to develop games for the new console.
While BioShock's dark subject matter may not be everyone's cup of tea, the game would definitely spark more interest in the Wii U, alleviating fears that the system won't receive heavy support from third-party developers. Considering the game runs on Unreal Engine 3, porting the title wouldn't be too difficult. Recently, Marc Rein of Epic Games, the developer of UE3, told videogamer.com that the engine is a "really good fit" for the console. I'd say there's a pretty good chance Take Two will be confirming a Wii U port very soon.
