Rumor: Wii U version of Battlefield 3 cancelled, BF4 is on its way

Don't be surprised if this doesn't come to the Wii U.

At E3 2011, EA CEO John Ricctitiello appeared on stage with Nintendo President Satoru Iwata and NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime, sending a clear message that the gaming giant was going to be a strong supporter of the Wii U. Footage of several different EA games was shown, including Battlefield 3. At E3 2012, Nintendo largely stood alone. There have been rumors that the two companies had a falling out over EA's desire to integrate Origin with the Wii U, which might explain why EA has been less vocal about the merits of the new platform. Now there is another rumor circulating that EA will not be working on a Wii U version of Battlefield 3.

According to Wii U Daily, EA and DICE were working together to bring the game to the new console, but halted their efforts after the alleged argument with Nintendo. The site claims that the team was then merged with the Battlefield 4 team, and that they will be doing a "straight port" of BF4 for the Wii U, which will take advantage of the GamePad's touchscreen. While it would seem that EA is taking special care to tailor Battlefield 4 to the new console, the site's source revealed that the Xbox 360 version will also feature touchscreen controls as well, via SmartGlass.

While none of these rumors about EA can be corroborated, they could very well be true, and the supposed Origin dispute would certainly explain a lot.
