Assassin's Creed III might not be the final entry in the series

There could very well be more to tell.

Assassin's Creed III is going to tip up a lot of loose ends, but according to Corey May, the game's lead writer, it won't necessarily be the end of the franchise. In an interview with Shacknews, May explained it this way:

May: "Should they decide in the future to do other stuff, there's plenty of room to explore, plenty of seeds that have been planted that won't conflict."

While he said he has "no idea" if there will be another entry in the series, he confirmed that Assassin's Creed III will close the main story arc revolving around the character Desmond.

May: "It was my intent to provide pay-off and to answer questions for those who are invested in them. It should provide a fairly lengthy ending that will also give room for answers and pay-off."

As for expectations about the ending, May said that it won't "come out of no where" and surprise gamers the way the previous title's finale did, and reassured gamers that it will have a sense of finality to it.

May: "I think people that have invested in the Desmond storyline will understand where the end of the game comes from. We're tying up loose ends and providing answers and resolution to things. You're not going to get another tremendous insane-o cliffhanger."

The Wii U version of the game is scheduled to launch alongside the console on November 18th.
