Get your fill of PS2 gear while you can. |
Mike Dzura, GameStop's Senior Vice President of Store Operations, has told The Verge that many of their stores will be removing the PlayStation 2, along with its games and accessories, to make room for the next generation of consoles, including the Wii U. Dzura's comments were interesting:
Dzura: "The PS2 is a unique one -- we still generate a whole lot of profit off PS2 sales, but we're going to keep PS2 where PS2 does sell, and we won't put it in stores where we see really lapsed sales."
He said they will be removing the console from many stores "on the coasts" of the United States, as the heartland of the country "tends to catch the wave a little bit later than the coasts to a degree."
Just recently, GameStop stopped accepting GameCube trade-ins, and a few years before that, they stopped accepting original Xbox trade-ins. The next generation of consoles is on its way, and as they say, "out with the old, in with the new."
