UK retailers: Unlikely we'll discount Wii U at launch, pre-orders are strong
Some of the United Kingdom's largest retailers have told MCV they don't believe stores will offer discounted prices on the Wii U bundles at launch. For those of you don't remember, retailers in the UK offered the 3DS at serious discounts as they had a lot of stock. In the case of the Wii U, they doubt they will have as many units. An unnamed senior retailer exec had this to say:
“There was a lot of stock of 3DS, which meant we felt we could go lower on price. But I don’t expect nearly as much Wii U stock. There will be no need for discounting.”
The retailers also praised the software lineup of the new console, with Jon Hayes saying it is "the strongest we have ever seen on a new Nintendo console." GAME boss Martin Gibbs told the site "It is safe to say that anybody who gets their hands on it and plays it for half an hour will see exactly why they should be excited." Pre-orders have been strong in the UK, and it looks as though the Big N has another hit on its hands.
