Rayman Legends dev believes Wii U NFC could be used in innovative ways

One of the GamePad's most-hyped features has been neglected by third-parties and Nintendo themselves.

The Wii U GamePad features near field communication abilities, but so far none of the games announced for the console make use of it. A few months ago, a video was leaked which showed NFC being used in Rayman Legends, but the game's creative director Michel Ancel has told Official Nintendo Magazine that it was merely an experiment.

“We didn’t announce this officially and it was more the kind of experiment we do when working on new hardware like the Wii U. We had prototypes of this and we believe that having real objects manipulating gameplay could be quite innovative. But again, this was a prototype and we won’t discuss it until it’s ready to demonstrate its full potential.”

If you are unfamiliar with NFC, the leaked Ubisoft video is after the break. The feature is highlighted from 1:18 through the end of the video.
