Here's a "Super Play" video from the official New Super Mario Bros. U YouTube channel which shows how you can get extra lives with the flying squirrel suit. As you probably know, the suit allows you to cling to walls, and you can use that ability to keep a 1UP streak going as long as your feet don't touch the ground. Video after the break.
