Gaming site dustycartridge.com has posted a lengthy interview of Katsuhiro Harada on their site. One point he is emphasizing is that the new Smash Bros. games are being designed primarily by Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the series. He assures fans that the game will not include characters from Namco Bandai's own fighting games unless Sakurai himself approves.
Harada also criticized the media's obsession with the Wii U's tech specs, which have never been fully revealed by Nintendo. "People seem to be focusing too much comparing the raw specs to other hardware," Harada said. "You really have to be looking at the capabilities and what features it has." To illustrate his point, he mentioned the unique ability to play games on the new controller's screen without the need for a TV.
Nintendo has often downplayed the importance of processing power, especially in regards to the Wii. It has been years since Nintendo tried to outdo the competition, technologically speaking, and their philosophy of gameplay over graphics has been the key to their success. If you want state of the art graphics, you'll have to look to the other guys. If you want amazing experiences you can't get elsewhere, go with Nintendo.
Here is the Zelda tech demo from Nintendo's 2011 E3 showing. No matter how amazing the visuals might be on Microsoft and Sony's new consoles, these graphics are more than enough to satisfy me.
