Tekken producer speaks out on why Nintendo chose Namco to create new Super Smash Bros.
Katshuhiro Harada, producer of the popular Tekken series, thinks he might know why Nintendo chose Namco to develop the new Super Smash Bros. games for the Wii U and 3DS. In an interview with Silicon Era, he said "I think Nintendo chose us [Namco] just because Smash Bros. is a fighting game. We have over 17 years of continuously developing titles in our franchise [Tekken], I think they felt we were a choice for that."
He also spoke about Nintendo and Namco's long-standing relationship: "Also, we've continually developed a very good relationship with Nintendo. Maybe not necessarily in the public spotlight but kind of behind the scenes. We have established a very good relationship with them. Not just Nintendo, but as a company, we have a very good relationship with Sakurai-san at Sora as well. I think we are in very good position to make a great game for the Smash Bros. series."
Nintendo and Namco have worked together to create many different games over the years. The two big N's joined up during the GameCube era to create Pac-man VS, and more recently, they collaborated on the two Mario Kart arcade games. Here's hoping their relationship will continue for years to come.
