| Even without the extra special effects, it will still look pretty darn good. |
Steven Masters, the Lead Game Designer of Assassin's Creed III, has revealed that the Wii U version of the game won't be quite up to par with those on the other platforms. Speaking at GamesCom, Masters reportedly said that the development team is facing challenges due to limited time with the new console's hardware. He even said the team is glad the release date has not been announced yet. According to this report, the Wii U version Assassin's Creed III "performs 99% as well as its current gen counterparts," but will be missing some extra lighting and particle effects. The developer is trying to match the graphics of the other platforms, but "not exceed them."
This isn't the first Wii U game that will be missing features that are standard for the other guys' rigs. EA revealed that Madden NFL 13 won't feature the advanced Infinity physics engine, and several game modes had to be excluded as well. Time constraints were revealed to be the cause in that case as well. While this news may be disheartening to Nintendo fans, this shouldn't come as a surprise. There are always a few bumps in the road when a new console launches. For roughly one and a half years, the PS3 versions of many big titles were far inferior to their Xbox 360 counterparts. As a matter of fact, Call of Duty 3, one of the most-prized titles at the time, received scores significantly lower on Sony's console and was ridden with all sorts of glitches. These are merely birth pains. They will pass.
