Ubisoft: Wii U version of Ghost Recon Online is "on hold"

Definitely not coming to Wii U anytime soon.

Disappointing news for fans of the Tom Clancy games. In an interview with videogamer.com today, Theo Sanders, producer of the upcoming Ghost Recon Online, said the Wii U version of the game is "on hold."

Sanders: "As of right now, the entire Ghost Recon team is focused on the PC version only...It's not a reaction to anything specific happening to [Wii U]...It was a really fun, cool platform to develop for. But you realise once you launch an online service that it's an all-consuming effort, so we really wanted to have all hands on deck. It was the same dev team working on both SKUs, and [we] really wanted to focus on doing the PC version right."

The Wii U version was announced at E3 2011, and was being developed concurrently with the PC version. After the announcement, the game sort of disappeared off the radar of most gaming sites until recently, as an open beta of the PC version launched last month, generating more interest in the title. Sanders didn't rule out the possibility of a console version in the future, and it's noteworthy that the Wii U was the only non-PC platform the game was in development for. The free-to-play, third-person shooter currently has a 68% average on metacritic based on 10 reviews. If you would like to give it a shot, you can do so via the game's official website.
