Nintendo warns users about Wii U bricking

Nintendo of America has sent out a warning to Wii U owners telling them not to power down or unplug the console during download and installation of the system update.

Nintendo: Wii U owners, please do not power down or unplug your system while downloading updates. Doing so may cause damage to your Wii U.

A number of gamers have reported their Wii U was bricked when their power or Internet went out during the update, and Nintendo is aware that it is happening. The update is necessary to gain access to many of the Wii U's features including Miiverse, the eShop, and more. Unfortunately, it is quite large and can take 1 to 2 hours depending on how fast your Internet connection is, raising the chances of something going wrong.
