Some Wii U owners are claiming that the console does upscale Wii games to a higher resolution despite Nintendo's official statements to the contrary. Here's one thread on the NeoGAF forums where at least one gamer is reporting crisper visuals, but there are other forums with similar claims sprouting up around the Net.
IGN seems to believe the Wii U is able to upscale Wii games. Currently, if you do a Google search for "upscaled Wii games on Wii U," one of the top results is from IGN. They actually put together a video comparison, which you can view via the link below.
