Wii to Wii U data transfer explained
We've known for quite some time that Wii system data, including game save data, WiiWare games, and Virtual Console games can be transferred to the Wii U, but that is all we knew about the subject. Now we finally know the details about the process, thanks to the staff of Polygon who have read through the Wii U user manual. Here's a quick summary.
Wii to Wii U data transfer process
-Insert SD card into the Wii
-Run the Wii System Transfer app
-When prompted, put SD card into Wii
-Download and run transfer app from the Wii Shop
-When data has been moved to SD card, insert it back into the Wii U
-The data will be moved to the Wii U and deleted from the SD card
Data that can be transferred
-Wii retail game save data
-WiiWare games and save data
-Virtual Console games and save data
-Downloaded add-on content
-Wii Shop Points
-Wii Shop Activity records
-Mii characters
