Thieves steal 7,000 Wii U consoles

Box designs for North American Wii U bundles

Thieves have managed to steal 7,000 Wii U consoles from a Nintendo distribution site at Seattle Air Cargo. The thieves drove two large diesel trucks into the warehouse, then worked together using forklifts to load the consoles onto pallets, after which they placed them in the semi-truck trailers and drove away.

The police are looking for a couple of trailers with the "McKinney" brand on them, as well as a Seattle Air Cargo Truck. A spokesperson revealed they are more likely to find the consoles by looking for "great deals" on websites like eBay and Craigslist.

“If we don’t get any tips ahead of time, it will be the selling of these consoles that will lead to their capture. It’s gonna be pretty hard to hide 7,000 Wii game consoles.” -Cindy West, police Sergeant

The original report by ABC did not make it clear if the boxes contained Wii consoles or Wii U consoles but Kotaku later received confirmation from the police that they did in fact contain Wii U consoles. Nintendo has declined to comment about any potential anti-theft measures built into their latest console. The estimated value of the systems is just over $2 million.
