Nintendo's console and handheld systems do have a lot in common with each other. (Image from Japanese TV commercial for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.) |
According to a report in Japanese publication Nikkei, Nintendo is planning to merge its handheld and console divisions into a single unit in February. The company is also planning to invest $340 million in a new development facility based in Kyoto to house the teams by the end of this year. This will allow development teams and groups to interact more easily than ever before. Seeing as how there has been a lot of talk about the two platforms being used to interact with each other, i.e. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Super Smash Bros., this restructuring seems to make a lot of sense.
