Nintendo working on Wii U Virtual Console which supports GamePad

In the future, this could be possible.

The Wii U allows gamers to play Virtual Console games, but they must enter "Wii Mode" to do so. The GamePad isn't currently compatible with the Virtual Console, and it actually powers down when "Wii Mode" is accessed. In November, president Satoru Iwata confirmed that the system will receive its own Virtual Console, and also said that it will support the GamePad, but no further details were given. Now, Kotaku reports that a Nintendo of America representative has reconfirmed that the company is working on a "Wii U Virtual Console" which supports the GamePad and allows off-screen play.

“We do not have any specifics to share at this time. However, we are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone.” -Nintendo of America representative
