Two Tribes says Toki Tori 2 is a "Metroidvania style game"

Toki Tori 2 is almost complete, and developer Two Tribes has given out some interesting information in regards to the Wii U eShop title. They say that it is "structurally a Metroidvania style game," which has caught many gamers by surprise. The term "Metroidvania" is a term which was created to describe the classic PlayStation game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which adapted the non-linear exploration gameplay of Super Metroid to the Castlevania series. In contrast, the first Toki Tori was strictly linear, with one level following another. Here's what Two Tribes said roughly one month ago about the side-scroller's setup:

When we decided to ditch the standard level structure most puzzle games use, we moved to a more open design. All the levels in the game are connected, and you can determine your own route through it if you so desire.

Two Tribes has not yet given an exact release date, but company co-founder Colin van Ginkel has confirmed that they are close to finishing work on the puzzle-platformer.

Heading into work for some last minute improvements. Last week of Toki Tori 2 is up ahead. Slightly frightening actually...
