Activision announces Call of Duty: Ghosts, no confirmation of Wii U version

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be shown live during the unveiling of the next-gen Xbox

Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Ghosts, this year's entry in the extremely popular series. A live-action teaser trailer has been released which says a live demonstration will be held during the unveiling of the next generation Xbox on May 21st. A press release issued by the company has confirmed it is in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS4, and "next gen platforms." Due to the wording, it is unclear if "next gen platforms" includes the Wii U, and retailers are not taking pre-orders for the game on the system.

And yet, it appears that it may be coming after all. When asked by The Examiner if the game is coming to Nintendo's console, an Activision representative gave the following reply:

We don’t have any news for the Wii U at this time, as we aren’t dating next generation platforms yet. Stay tuned.
-Activision representative

While many have debated the status of the Big N's console as a "next generation platform," it looks as though Activision is referring to it as such. It's also worth noting that box art for a Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts was spotted on a Spanish retailer's website a few days ago before being removed after attracting attention. We'll keep you posted. Teaser trailer after the break.
