In Nintendo's latest financial report, Global President Satoru Iwata admitted that the marketing campaign for the Wii U has failed to inform some members of the public that the system is actually a brand new console and not just a controller for the original Wii. Here are his comments to investors on the matter:

"Some have the misunderstanding that Wii U is just Wii with a pad for games, and others even consider Wii U GamePad as a peripheral device connectable to Wii. We feel deeply responsible for not having tried hard enough to have consumers understand the product."

It looks like the company is trying to hammer the message home, as they have reportedly started sending messages directly to Wii owners informing them that the Wii U is an "all-new home console." The image you see above was obtained from Kotaku, who have confirmed that the Big N is trying to get the word out. Here is an excerpt from the message:

It's time to discover Wii U.

Wii U is the all-new home console from Nintendo. It's not just an upgrade - it's an entirely new system that will change the way you and your family experience games and entertainment.

Seeing as how there are close to 100 million Wii owners around the world, hopefully Nintendo's message will get some of them interested in the new console.
