Update 5/30/13: The Kickstarter has already surpassed its goal.
Original Story
A Kickstarter has been launched for A Hat in Time, a game inspired by the 3D platformers of the N64 era. A PC version is already well into development and developer Gears for Breakfast hopes to bring it to the Wii U as well. It looks like gamers really miss colorful platforming games as the campaign has already raised an astounding $24,709 of its $30,000 goal since it began less than a day ago. With 29 days left, it seems safe to say that development of the game will proceed.
Here are a few excerpts from Kickstarter:
A Hat in Time is a 3D collect-a-thon platformer in the spirit of the beloved Nintendo and Rare games from the Nintendo 64 era. Think Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario 64 all in one!
Time is falling apart and it is the job of the brave interstellar-travelling Hat Kid to collect all the time pieces and put them back together! But watch out, you're in a race against the evil Mustache Girl who wants to use time for evil!
The Kickstarter actually mentions the possiblity of the game coming to the Wii U, as many gamers have been asking them to port it to the console.
We hear U! (see what we did there?) Like everybody else, we think that a Wii U version could be awesome! However, as stated, we are not in a position where we can promise anything yet, but we hope that Nintendo is listening to all of the great feedback you are giving!
Many gamers have compared the visual style of A Hat in Time to Super Mario Sunshine and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. As you can see from the screenshot above, that's a pretty fair comparison.
