| New Super Mario Bros U is taking a lot of inspiration from Super Mario World. |
The latest issue of Game Informer is chock-full of info for Mario fans. Readers who have got their hands on it are now reporting that New Super Mario Bros. U will have a seamless world map like the one featured in Super Mario World. Players can pan around the map and get their bearings on the virtual world around them, which includes branching paths, allowing for some choice in where Mario and company travel. Super Mario Bros. 3 was the first Mario game to feature world maps, but there were eight individual maps. Super Mario World took the idea and made it better, allowing players to walk from one world to the next, replaying any level they wished at any time, making everything more accessible and increasing the replay value substantially. Hearing that NSMBU is following that example is certainly welcome news.
A NeoGAF user has revealed additional information about the maps. Each world will have a mid-world fortress which is guarded by Boom-Boom, a baddy introduced in Super Mario Bros. 3 who recently reappeared in Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS. But that's not all. Each end-world castle will have a Koopaling to contend with, carrying on the tradition from Super Mario Bros. 3. Nintendo are certainly mining their classics for inspiration.

In addition to this, Game Informer has also revealed 7 Worlds: Acorn Plains, Sparkling Waters ( a tropical area), Frosted Glacier, Layer Cake Desert (which has melting deserts), a world similar to the Forest of Illusion from Super Mario World, and Sky World, which is surrounded by a large tornado. It should be noted that there could be more than 7 Worlds, and based on Mario's 2D track record, there is probably at least one more world, which would likely be King Bowser's own world. New Super Mario Bros. U is by far the one Wii U title I have the most interest in. We'll keep you posted.
