It seems a lot like Wii Sports, but it's not made by Nintendo. |
In the Wii U reveal trailer at E3 2011, Nintendo showed the GamePad being used by players to spot their ball in Wii Sports Golf and catch fly balls in Wii Sports Baseball. Based on the video, many gamers expected the Big N would have an enhanced version of their best-seller for the Wii U, but no such announcement has been made. It appears the company was merely using the Wii's pack-in to showcase the unique features of the new high tech controller.
Ubisoft is filling the void with a sports mini-game compilation of their own: ESPN Sports Connection. It was originally known simply as Sports Connection but Ubisoft has gotten the popular sports cable network to lend their name to the game, giving it a more high-profile title. Even though it's been confirmed as a launch day game, it hasn't gotten much attention from the press. It will have six different sports: baseball, football, soccer, tennis, golf, and karting.
Here is part 1 of the "Inside Look" trailer in which members of the development team discuss the various sports games while gameplay footage plays. They seem to have used a lot of the ideas in Nintendo's 2011 E3 demo and the Sports Connection looks like it might actually be a good substitute for Wii Sports. Video after the break.
