Reggie says third-party games look better on Wii U

During an interview with CNN, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that third-party games look dramatically better on the Wii U, and singled out Call of Duty as an example of one such game.

“Well first off, I have to correct you. The specs are quite different from the competitor systems. Much more graphically intensive. If you do a side-by-side comparison, you would actually see that third-party games like Call of Duty look dramatically better on our system. And then in terms of what competition’s going to do in the future, we’ll see. We know that based on our own development, this two-screen gaming experience really is the next innovation that consumers are gravitating to. It’s selling extremely well here in the Americas. Already stocks are quite low in the marketplace, we’re rapidly replenishing. And so for us, certainly consumers are deciding that the innovation is well worth their investment.”

Reggie's comments are causing some controversy on the Net. Just yesterday, Eurogamer published a lengthy article which compared the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to the other versions and it was revealed that the frame rate is slightly lower on Nintendo's console.

However, gamers should keep in mind that the Wii U just launched and developers are likely still figuring out how to optimize performance. As you may remember, the first generation of PlayStation 3 games also had performance issues, but as time went on, it largely ceased to be an issue.
