Pokémon Scramble U trailer shows Wii U NFC in action

Pokémon Scramble U, which is being referred to in the West as Pokémon Rumble U, is a download-only Wii U title which will arrive on the Japanese eShop on April 24th for 1800 Yen. It is the third entry in the series, the first two being Pokémon Rumble on WiiWare and Pokémon Rumble Blast on 3DS. So far, there has been no mention of a release outside of Japan, but given the fact that the first two were released in North America and Europe, it seems likely that West will receive it at some point in the future.

The game was announced in the February issue of Coro Coro Magazine and it was recently revealed that it will be the first title to make use of the NFC capabilities of the Wii U GamePad. Players will put small characters on the GamePad which are then inserted into the game-world via the NFC chip on the lower left corner of the high-tech controller. The official site has confirmed that the first "set" of figurines will include Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Tochic, Piplup, Lucario, and Victini. The figures can be upgraded with in-game currency and will retain stats, allowing players to use them on other Wii U consoles.

A Japanese trailer for the game has emerged which shows the game making use of the GamePad's NFC. Approximately 1 and half minutes into the video, a player places a Pikachu figure on the controller, and a Pikachu appears in the game almost instantly, ready for action. Trailer after the break.
