Wii U sold 307,471 units in Japan during launch weekend

Wii U Premium console and GamePad controller

According to Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, the Wii U sold 307,471 units in Japan during the weekend. For reference, the console launched in Japan on Saturday.

As for software sales, here are the numbers:

New Super Mario Bros. U – 160,140
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate – 106,454
Nintendo Land – 66,583
ZombiU – 10,680 copies
Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper – 7,252 copies
Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition – 4,951 copies

It's worth noting that Nintendo Land is not included in any of the Japanese bundles. There is, however, a Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Bundle which is just like the North American Deluxe Set except it comes with a copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate rather than Nintendo Land. Gamekult did not mention if bundled copies of the title were included in the sales figures, but it seems likely they were.

Japanese Wii U sales were comparable to those of the Wii, which sold 350,358 units during launch weekend in 2006. Here were the top-selling games at the time:

Wii Sports – 176,000 copies (was not bundled with the system in Japan)
Wii Play – 174,000 copies
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess  – 139,000 copies sold
