Nintendo recently announced that they would be re-releasing a number of games on the Wii U Virtual Console that were previously released on the Wii Virtual Console. The new versions will feature off-TV play, among other things, and gamers who have already downloaded the games before will receive a significant discount to upgrade.
Many players were hoping that they might be able to use their old save files after upgrading but it appears that won't be possible. Nintendo has confirmed that save files cannot be transferred from the Wii Virtual Console to the Wii U Virtual Console, meaning that should you decide to download the enhanced versions of your favorite games, you will need to start over from the beginning
