Video of Wii U running Wii mode
After downloading an update, the Wii U can play Wii, WiiWare, and Virtual Console games. One YouTube user has recorded some footage of his new console running "Wii Mode." He plays some Super Mario World, Mega Man 2, Donkey Kong Country, and Punch Out!!, after which he heads back to the Wii U menu. You can watch it after the break.

Looks really nice but it offers no improvements from playing on the wii?
ReplyDeleteWii games are said to have slightly better image quality when running on the Wii U, but as far as I can tell, that's the only improvement.
Deleteit would be awesome to play on the gamepad screen only - is this possible in Wii mode?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the GamePad doesn't work at all when the system is in Wii Mode, and it actually turns itself off when you access Wii Mode to save power. In a recent Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata said that there are plans to make the Virtual Console compatible with the GamePad sometime in the future, so there is hope.
